A Book Reading, A Cooking Demo & A Book Exchange

Well this blog post title was quite a mouthful! Wasn’t it? When the event was action packed like this… it deserves a title like that!!

I learnt about this event via JAMM’s. You guys must have read about JAMM’s social initiatives like i-light and Step Up. It is an award winning group that promotes connecting with mothers not only online but also in real life. That is the reason there are tons of activities and events that JAMM’s members participate in. One such event was a book reading by Kiran Manral on her latest book, The Face At The Window. Icing on the cake was that the event would be scheduled at Rushina’s cook studio. Now Rushina has had one event at the studio before and I heard such rave reviews that even though this was on a weekday, I decided to attend it. A rarity for me! While we were discussing about the event in the JAMM’s book club, I had an idea about a book exchange. I bounced that off the people and a few enthusiastic ladies signed up for it.

On the day of the event I got held at work and hence reached the event really late. So late in fact that I missed Kiran’s reading and Rushina was halfway through her dish 🙁 Nevertheless, I jumped right into the event greeting people, clicking pictures and even trying to make sense of what Rushina was cooking. She made a lovely wine sauce and added chicken and mushrooms in it. Here is Rushina’s tip about using mushrooms in a dish.

Always add salt to the end just before you serve it or the mushrooms will lose water and make your sauce too runny.

As Rushina proceeded to add finishing touches to the dessert, her staff laid out a sumptuous high tea for us. The chairs were cleared away and the whole place transformed into a cozy party place where ladies chatted, exchanged notes on everything from kids, foods and books. We also began the book exchange. Look at the number of books that were brought in by the ladies. They were all so enthu and I was so happy that my little idea was a success! We had a range of books from fiction to non fiction and a mix of authors and genres…

I had such a good time with the conversations, the food and chatting up with Kiran about her book. The Face At the Window is a spooky book and again a different genre that Kiran has attempted. I picked up a copy and looking forward to reading it soon! Watch this space for a review coming soon…
