There’s Something About You by Yashodhara Lal #BookReview

I have been meaning to review There’s Something About You by Yashodhara Lal for ages now. I was sent the book by Harper Collins via Indiblogger. I got it on 23 July and read it right away. I even tweeted through it!

The review has been in my drafts for ever. But then the author herself tweeted to me asking for the review and I knew I had to finish it!!

So here it is….

My Thoughts on There’s Something About You

I love chick lits. The kinds that are a breezy read and provide you with light hearted entertainment without being frivolous. Since a lot of the chick lits venture into the last category, I pick them up with a bit of apprehension.

A good story is the foundation of a good book. There’s Something About You is built on a fairly sound one. We meet the imperfect heroine. She is overweight, under appreciated at her job and has a stressful family environment. Life throws her a lemon when she loses her job. This book is about how she lives through this and finds a better path.

What I really liked about this book is the central character, Trish . She is very much a girl next door. She has a sense of humor laced with sarcasm and yet knows when to use it and when to shut up. She is neither vicious nor a miss goody two shoes. Just like you and me. Someone who has her sunny moments and her dark moments. She has a volatile relationship with her mother and I liked the way it is portrayed. Just bordering on over the top. Having experienced a punjabi household, that is utterly believable to me!

The male lead in the book is too good to be true! Honestly, they do not make them like this anymore. Such men exist only in story books these days. Thankfully, Yashodhara does not make this relationship the focal point of the story. There is a lot more going on in Trish’s life and everything gets its due.

There’s something about you is the kind of Novel you could pick up on a Sunday morning and comfortably finish it by the evening. It is very easy to read and the narration is so fluid that you can just keep going on and on. I started reading the book at 11pm the same evening I got it and read it through to the end. This was on a weekday. That is how much I liked it 🙂

If you are on Goodreads, you can read the review there too. Fellow book lovers. I would love to connect on Goodreads and exchange notes!
