The double chocolate mousse with strawberry chilli jam Eat Pray Love

That I am a foodie is no secret really. I love food and I love to try new cuisines and dishes. My preferences though generally veer toward savoury dishes. I enjoy desserts in a limited quantity, in small doses and spread across time. For me, a buffet with a great salad spread is better than …

Indian Chaat – is there a better example of Sweet and Spicy in the culinary world? As an ardent fan of chaat, I would say no.. absolutely not! The beauty of chaat is that  there are so many variations of it, different forms, incorporating regional flavours and yet, the essence of it remains the same. …

Movie buffs would know the scene in Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham where Hrithik tells his dad he wants to do his MBA in London because it is a family tradition. While the dad looks on proudly in celluloid, I could not help wonder how often the situation gets reversed in real life. Imagine a stern …

My daughter’s summer vacations have begun and her school is being renovated. So the classes will resume in July instead of June. To top that, her day care has ended. Ended for good. An Autograph For Anjali by Sundari Venkatraman

An Autograph for Anjali is the latest book by Sundari Venkatraman. In The Book Club that I am a part of, Sundari has been called the Desi Mills and Boons queen. Having read some of her previous books too, I had a fair idea of what to expect. I also wanted to know if Sundari …

About Me

Ankita

Hi, I’m Ankita.

I started writing online in 2004, when blogs were still personal corners of the internet rather than content platforms.

Over the years, the writing has evolved, but the instinct behind it has remained the same. Pay attention to small moments and follow them where they lead.

Most of my posts begin that way and slowly unfold into reflections on work, motherhood, culture, memory and life in general.

Now, I write about who we become while we’re busy being everything else.

Gender Roles are different and the expectations fr Gender Roles are different and the expectations from men and women are different. That is the reality of our life. The differences show up in the smallest of ways. Sometimes , we’d like to change them, and sometimes, it is better to just acknowledge and accept. The awareness itself is a good first step.
What’s your favourite chemical exfoliant? I’ve What’s your favourite chemical exfoliant? I’ve tried The Ordinary AHA BHA peel as well as The Ordinary Glycolic acid. While both work well on the exfoliating part, my skin goes red and bumpy for 2-3 days afterward. And yes, I moisturise and lot and lay off the actives.

I’ve learned that changing how you look is often the easiest part.
The harder work is unlearning the expectations that came with looking a certain way in the first place.
.
Somewhere between work, motherhood, moving countries, and holding life together, the body becomes evidence.
- Of effort.
- Of responsibility.
- Of showing up.
.
And yet, we’re still expected to treat it like a project.
Presentable. Controlled. Acceptable.

I don’t believe confidence comes from appearance anymore.
I don’t believe ageing is a personal failure.
And I don’t believe caring about how you look cancels out depth, intelligence, or seriousness.
.
This body has lived a full life. It doesn’t need to earn rest. It doesn’t owe anyone aesthetics.
.
I share thoughts like these here, often quietly, for women navigating work, motherhood, change, and their own becoming.

If this resonates, please share.

This week though, has been balmy! What kind of weather sorcery is this?
