About Me

Ankita

Hi, I’m Ankita.

I started writing online in 2004, when blogs were still personal corners of the internet rather than content platforms.

Over the years, the writing has evolved, but the instinct behind it has remained the same. Pay attention to small moments and follow them where they lead.

Most of my posts begin that way and slowly unfold into reflections on work, motherhood, culture, memory and life in general.

Now, I write about who we become while we’re busy being everything else.

We placed mothers on pedestals and called it respe We placed mothers on pedestals and called it respect, without noticing how quickly admiration turns into expectation.

The moment women become symbols of sacrifice and strength, they stop being allowed complexity, mistakes, exhaustion, anger, ambition, or even ordinary humanity.

This Mother’s Day essay is about mothers, daughters, apologies, impossible standards, and the strange moment you realise your mother was learning life in real time too.

“Mothers, Mistakes, and the Myth of Perfection” is now live on the blog.

Loose, flowy silhouettes that make movement feel m Loose, flowy silhouettes that make movement feel more graceful. That is probably how I would define the way many women dress in the GCC.

And strangely, it did not feel unfamiliar to me as an Indian woman.

There is something about it that reminds me of the everyday lehengas, cotton kurtas, and the softer saree drapes we grew up around. Clothes designed for heat, movement, modesty, and long days. Clothes that do not fight the weather.

There is a trick to dressing for extreme 45-degree summers, and over the last four years, I have slowly begun to embrace it.

Lighter fabrics.
Breathable layers.
Clothes that move with you instead of sitting stiffly on you.

What started as admiration slowly became adaptation.

One of the unexpected things about living in another culture for long enough is that parts of it quietly become your own.
Most of us don’t struggle with saying no. We stru Most of us don’t struggle with saying no.

We struggle with saying it cleanly.

So we soften it.
We delay it.
We make it sound reasonable.

“Let me check.”
“This week is hectic.”
“We’ll see.”

It feels kinder in the moment. Less abrupt. Easier to say.

But the discomfort doesn’t disappear. It just moves. Usually to the other person. Sometimes back to you, later, when the thing you didn’t want to do is still waiting.

I didn’t realise how often I was doing this until I started paying attention to the words I use when I already know the answer.

A soft no isn’t neutral. It just changes where the weight lands.

Full piece is on the blog.

Gender Roles are different and the expectations fr Gender Roles are different and the expectations from men and women are different. That is the reality of our life. The differences show up in the smallest of ways. Sometimes , we’d like to change them, and sometimes, it is better to just acknowledge and accept. The awareness itself is a good first step.
