5 Things That Help New Moms Feel Good

It is said that every pregnancy is different. I have felt it in both my pregnancies. The impact each left on my body has been different. While coping up with these new bodies, most new moms are looking for only one thing – comfort. Unfortunately, comfort translates into old de-shaped tees, loose yoga pants and oversized jerseys. Add to that the constant need to nurse and smart dressing goes out of the window. Does comfort really have to be synonymous with drudgery? I don’t think so. I have always believed that feeling good has a lot to do with looking good and vice versa. So, I made a list of items that are making me feel good this month. It is an eclectic list and has all sorts of things from lipstick to babydolls to chia seed pudding!

Lipstick – Had to start with this. Anyone who has been following my blog knows my love for them. Lipstick is my war paint and whenever I feel low, I slap some on to uplift my mood. You know the best part, it is a great way to use up the lipsticks in my collection and make room for new ones. For me, it is lipstick. For you, it may be something else. Any makeup or skin care product that you like. A one-minute indulgence that goes a long way to make you feel good.

Lingerie – Now before you narrow your eyes and ask, “Surely you meant nursing bras!”, Nope I did not. I meant Lingerie. Lingerie is feel-good inner wear. Right? And this list is not about how to do things better but how to feel better. Now I know that not all Lingerie works for a new mom. Some styles like babydoll nighties do. As a style, the babydoll is not tight. It is easy and very light to wear. Why babydoll works for a new mom is that it can be used to nurse too. The babydoll is roomy enough to be worn over a nursing bra and feed the baby when the night time demands come in. They are available on a variety of fabrics and lengths. You could easily shop online for pieces that catch your attention. However, I must warn you that something like a babydoll nightgown comes with an occupational hazard of getting naughty with your partner. Not an unpleasant side effect I’d say. What about you?

Saree – Yes ma’am the unstitched 6 meter garment. If you follow me on Instagram, you’d probably know that I have been baby wearing and very often, in a saree none the less. I got a couple of very old cotton sarees from my mom and set aside two of them to drape rather than baby wear. Cool comfortable cotton sarees draped over the same old shapeless tees I talked about earlier don’t compromise on comfort but look so much better and shapely than tees and tracks. And let’s admit it, there is something about the saree that makes you feel instantly dainty!

Nail Polish – I must admit that nail polish almost didn’t make it to the list. It was something Aadya (my three month old) did that actually changed my mind. I prefer clean nails and sport nail paints only on occasion. On a whim, I coloured my nails deep red last week. It was one of those quick drying ones that came in a subscription beauty box. My hands looked pretty and when I played with Aadya, she was enthralled by the colour on my fingers. She squealed and did not take her gaze away for all the time we played. Totally worth the five minutes spent painting and ten minutes standing still to let it dry.

Chia Seed Pudding – Finally on to chia seed pudding! In case you were wondering earlier why I talked about that in a clothes related post. Well, ever since I started sitting back into my pre-pregnancy clothes, I have been feeling fabulous. A few days back I wore my fitted pants to an event and it felt great. I haven’t been working out much and am constantly hungry due nursing late into the night. So, chia seeds pudding has really helped me eat healthy and still feel full. The perk of it being Mango season is that chia seed pudding goes great with mangoes. I am able to satisfy my craving in a healthy way. Again, it feels great!

My Chambray Shirt and Fitted Trousers for GCDC

So that is my list. If you are a new mom, do you agree that doing small things for yourself make you feel good? Does that affect how you mother your bubs?
