Affimity – The Interest Based Social Network

Affimity

Today, there is no dearth of social media network and apps. From the biggies that are for anyone and everyone to professional to niche – one is as spoilt for choice as a hungry kid at a Sunday brunch buffet. As a blogger, I too struggled to maintain presence on the networking sites; especially when I started rebranding myself. I realised I had the same set of people connecting with me on most social sites and looked around for something that would allow me to discover blogs that wrote things I liked to read!

Then one fine day, I was introduced to Affimity. Affimity is a social network where people can connect over common interests. What I really liked about it was the attention given to the interface and design. Very modern and intitutive with extremely nice pictures. It asked me straight away what my areas of interest were and automatically curated content suited to my taste. Kind of like a radio for blogs. I don’t have to hunt and browse. Content gets delivered on a platter! The posts are like status updates with pictures, blog links or just experiences penned down. One has an option to follow or befriend others. I am still in the discovery phase with this app and I like what I see. I can choose to make connections or just follow someone’s writings. As a blogger, this works well and I can explore and build my network with care. I feel that is extremely important if you don’t have a niche. It takes a long time to find like minded bloggers. As I said before, I really liked the interface and design. I can easily switch between interests and even bookmark posts to read later.

What I did not like was that while sharing my own posts, I had to go to the interest specific channel first and could not choose that while posting. A minor gripe I know but still an oversight from the design team. Another thing is that there were quite a few random updates and I am not sure how many bloggers are on this medium yet. A point which always comes to my. mind in any social media. That said, I explored it for a few days and found a few bloggers I know. So some of the crowd is genuine. I hope it develops into a full fledged blogging community. It surely has the potential!

I am on Affimity too and would love to connect. You can download Affimity from Google play store for the Android App at https://goo.gl/4TtZlO or App Store for the iOS App at https://goo.gl/BZmypa
