Love in Agartha by Sundari Venkatraman #BookReview

LoveInAgarthabySundariVenkatraman

Love in Agartha is a fantasy romance. It is set in modern times and blends the Indy romance with a little bit of science fiction and a little bit of fantasy.  According to Goodreads,

When Sanat Kumara usurps the job that Naavya Batra has been coveting since a long time, her instantaneous attraction towards him turns to intense dislike. But soon, she’s all in admiration for the man. When she finally decides to give herself to him, Sanat insists on telling Naavya something about her…

…something she has absolutely no memory of. What does Sanat know about Naavya that she herself isn’t aware of? And what secrets are her cousins holding back from her?

Read this tale of fantasy which takes you to three different realms on the earth, to find out if Sanat Kumara is really what he appears to be on the surface. But what about Naavya? Will her love for Sanat hold up under the circumstances?

What I Liked about Love in Agartha

  1. It is an easy read. Like all Sundari Venkatraman books I have read so far, this one too is an easy read. The focus is on the story telling and there is no meandering from that path.
  2. This book is not linear. I like that in books. Actually, I admire and slightly envy authors who can balance multiple timelines in a story. It keeps me hooked about what comes next and there is mystery even in a romance genre book. It totally satisfies the mystery buff in me.
  3. Agartha is a fantasy world, created by the author and I love her idea of it. I have read quite a few fantasy books and novellas and I must say the purity of Agartha is an absolute first. I loved the way she has imagined this world of abundance and happiness. I was particularly impressed with the description of the nature’s bounty and the harmony with which people live there. It seemed a world free of shackles and simplicity, something we desperately need today.

What I did not Like about Love in Agartha

There is just one thing I did not like in this book and that is the hero. Yes, not liking the hero of a romance book would be a first! The reason for this is that our hero is too mighty. He displays no vulnerability except for longing for his love. His strength is unparalleled and he defeats the enemy with the ease of a child’s play. In fact, he just has to show up and things get sorted. A character like that, I just could not relate to. For me, a character is more interesting when there is a conflict big enough to shake the other person. A hero becomes a hero when he overcomes that conflict. His attitude towards his lady love too wasn’t easy to understand. It oscillates between extreme respect and patronising.

Final Thoughts

Despite the flaw I mentioned above, the book is a good, engaging read. It is a light breezy romance, perfect on the go! If you are a fan of Indie romances, this is a great option.
