- Alarms – I have about 3 alarms on my phone to wake me up and then the little one on a school day. Hubby has one to signal the arrival of the school bus! Nuff said.
- Reminders – Be it bill payments or scheduling appointments or even ordering vegetables. A quickie reminder whenever the thought pops in my head and I am reminded at the right time to get the job done!
- WhatsApp – Now before you tell me that this is a time waster, think again. Hubby has team groups on WA that he uses to communicate and bond with his team. I have my daughter’s classmates group and day care group which are handy for a quick communication. Karwa chauth went by last week and all the arrangements were discussed on my building’s WA group!
- Evernote – What I like about Evernote is that they have a desktop as well as mobile app that syncs together. The mobile app is great for jotting down ideas on the go and making notes in meetings. I can then access all the notes from my laptop and use them as i want. Have stopped carrying my laptop to meetings these days. I just land with my phone 🙂
- Epaper or News Apps – Its been ages since we had a physical paper delivered at home. News sites, epapers and apps by news sites keep us abreast of whatever is happening. Anyways the news is stale by the time you read it in a paper. Other than editorials, no content on a paper is fresh. And who reads editorials in a paper… I’d rather read a blog 😉
- Twitter – Twitter is great to keep yourself updated of all kinds of celebrity gossip if that is your thing or chat with friends or even monitoring a hashtag to gauge the public sentiment.
- Google Calendar – Handy little thing that not only integrates with your Android phones but also can send out sms reminders before meetings!
- Runtastic – As more and more urban Indians wake up to fitness everyday, it is only natural that fitness apps make the cut. Runtastic is an excellent app that helps you keep track of your running, jogging, walking, biking routes and even monitor trends etc.
- eBook Readers – For a geeky book lover like me, this is probably the most used app. I love that eBooks are easy to buy and maintain than actual books and have off late read tonnes of books on my phone. More than my kindle which I carry only on long journeys
- Online Shopping – From Groceries to clothes, from makeup to shoes, from utensils to gas burners, from smart phones to TVs… we have bought all of it online. If you don’t agree that I have been efficient, think of all the time saved roaming about from store to store of mall to mall. Just the saving of the time and effort makes online shopping it 🙂
- Maps – The navigation apps means that as long as you have cell coverage, you don’t get lost! Even on my daily commute, I check traffic before I leave work to decide which route option to take that particular day.
- Truecaller – Caller Id from all possible phones in the world! okay so that is an exaggeration but Truecaller keeps spam calls away. I simply do not answer tele marketing numbers anymore.
- Vsco Cam – For photo junkies like me, photo editing apps are a must have. It doesn’t get easier than vsco cam for photo editing. I have fellow blogger Divyakshi to thank for introducing me to this
- Cam Scanner – All those pesky bills and receipts that get lost in the depth of my purse now sit in the Cam Scanner. An app that uses your phone camera to scan documents.
As good asBetter than a traditional scanner!
What are yours…
Nice post.. I have not thought about the apps from this perspective.. The apps that I frequently use are Kindle, Twitter, Pedometer, ESPNCricinfo, Zomato & Google Maps.. There were a few more apps in my phone that are now not there, courtesy your post…
You are a heavy user then! hi five! How is pedometer? Any good?
I had this tab open forever since I wanted to read this at leisure. Found it while clearing out old tabs. I totally agree on the reminders and alarms bit. Not so much a WA group fan. The most common complaint is I exit groups. Though I understand your take since my sister also has her kids’ school group to stay abreast of what’s happening in school. I don’t read newspapers. Yet to try Evernote. Heard that it’s good. Illiterate about photo editing. I don’t trust online shopping, though I understand the convenience bit. I am a recent convert to book readers cz it at least gets some reading done on the go. I use Scannable on iPhone to scan in a jiffy! The only apps I seem to use regularly are Feedly and Twitter. Typing on my iPad so sorry about errors, if any.
Hi.. thank you so much for that elaborate reply! WA groups can be annoying. I have muted all the groups and browse sometimes while travelling to and from work… when nothing exciting is happening on twitter coz you all are busy :p Evernote is good to capture bits of info and then sync across devices… what do you use feedly app for?

I Loved the post and really can relate to the topic. I surely am amazed how we spent our childhoods without smartphones or rather phones. simply love each one of these apps and would love to add a few more. . I love Freecharge app which saves lots of time of recharging and paying my postpaid and DTH bills on the go; not to mention the free coupons and deals. I love my Pinterest and Facebook pages manager app which surely saves me from being in front of a compueter screen to keep my page updated and keep a tab on latest posts. Some others may be Zomato as I’m a big time foodie and love trying out new places to dine. I also love my WordPress app to keep my site updated on the go. Teamviewer is also a much used app for me. Noom coach, Book My Show app and Google Drive app are some of my hard to live without apps.
And I’m an Android User on my HTC One. 🙂
Hey Sayantani… hi five from a fellow phone addict! you totally sound like one :p
I have heard lots of people praising freecharge and am gonna try that next… book my show and zomato are cool too… what are noom coach and teamviewer though..
