Being plus sized, I have found that my clothing choices are limited. I always start shopping by asking the question, “What do you have in my size?” While Indian wear is fine, I have never been very happy with the western wear options. Up until a few years ago, the only options available to me were tee shirts and button downs. So I was wearing either boyfriend tees or too large button downs. What I wanted were cute, well fitted tops and tunics which were just not there!! Back then, I remember seeing shows like What Not to wear and agreeing with the principles of the show. I would look for guidelines that would apply to me and go… aha! I got a good idea of what I needed. Challenge was I never found it. I then resorted to tailored western wear. Our masterjees that would spin suit after suit of stunning gorgeousness made simple western dresses look like maternity wear. Once, in desperation I even went to a ‘Gents Tailor’. And then? Well, the lesser said about that boxy debacle the better.
For everyday wear, I could not afford exclusive boutiques. So in some sense, e-commerce really opened up a lot of options for me. There are tons and tons of well-established sites and new ones that make looking for western wear a breeze. I am so relieved that I can now find stylish tops in my size. What a relief it is to not settle for options that you don’t like! I started online shopping a while ago and started buying clothes for myself online roughly about a year back. I had a few false starts and some disastrous picks. The great thing is that you can return the stuff if you aren’t happy with it. The fact that there are so many sales makes it tempting and easy to buy stuff you want to experiment with. I have tried a few styles that I was not sure would work with me and have been pleasantly surprised sometimes. Am so glad that these eCommerce sites have opened up a whole new world of shopping and are not ignoring us plus sized women.
Here are some of the tops I bought online 🙂
